How Behavioural Targeting Can Increase Your Marketing ROI

Behavioural targeting is a hot topic at the moment in the UK. This is due to a new EU Directive which has now entered UK law as of 25 May. The Directive (EU Directive 2009/136/EC) is part of the ‘Telecoms Reform Package’ which amends a handful of EU laws. In this instance it has changed the parameters of use of ‘cookies’ which has a direct effect on behavioural targeting. The big shift is from giving consumers the ‘right to refuse’ having a cookie left on their system to requiring the user to give their explicit consent to allow the use of a cookie.

The dust is still settling on how this will actually be acted upon, but suffice to say it is going to have a massive impact on behavioural targeting.
